With overall market statistics and named project information, the report once again provides unique detail on the commercial, education and healthcare fit out opportunities available to North American companies in the Middle East region.
An extract from the overall conclusion of the Report confirms as follows :
The GCC’s fit out industry has its hands full heading into 2016 due to heightened construction activity, and the completion of structural works on large-scale. Fit out operations have evolved in line with industry changes, and modern fit out designs and practices are transitioning to suit international standards. This evolution can be attributed to the rapid globalisation ambitions of local GCC markets such as the UAE and Qatar.
As sustainability has become a major issue, the fit out industry has experienced increased pressure to implement environmentally-responsible practices.
Despite the slump in oil prices, the GCC building construction and interiors market is clearly set for a sustained upward stint over the next few years.
– The GCC interiors and fit out spend in the Commercial Sector is expected to increase from US$ 1,150 million in 2015 to US$ 1,168 million in 2016.
– All GCC countries are likely to register an upward trend in 2016 in terms of interior and fit outs spend except for Saudi Arabia.
– The interiors and fit out spend in the UAE Commercial Sector alone is likely to increase from US$ 328 million in 2015 to US$ 350 million in 2016.

The Office Exhibition, the premier trade show for the commercial fit out and commercial interior design industry in the Middle East, has a new name, workspace at INDEX.
For the past 13 years, the largest commercial interiors fit-out and design exhibition in the Middle East has attracted the region’s architects, interior designers and projects managers, buyers and specifiers of commercial interiors fit-out projects. For its most recent show in May 2013, Office was co-located with the INDEX International Design Exhibition.
As the largest and longest running interiors and design show in the Middle East, INDEX attracts the world’s leading interior designer brands and exhibitors as they compete for their share of the GCC’s US$9.2bn interiors and fit-out market across residential, hospitality, and retail sectors.
“This change in identity for Office is a very positive step and sharpens our focus on the expectations and demands of exhibitors and trade visitors,” said Frederique Maurell, Group Event Director – Design at dmg events. “The new workspace at INDEX brand confirms and strengthens the exhibition’s strong links to INDEX, and the natural synergy between the two concepts is evident.
The decision to run the two shows simultaneously, with commonality of branding, was taken in direct response to the feedback received at this year’s shows. In 2013, a quarter (24 per cent) of all INDEX visitors also attended The Office Exhibition and 27 per cent of our visitors were interested in commercial design products. Together, these two shows create the region’s number one destination for interiors; delivering the very best and the very latest in interior design solutions across all market segments. This realignment will help us to expand the commercial interiors event and its product offering and illustrate that the new workspace at INDEX show is about much more than just office furniture.”
An exhibitor at the recently concluded The Office Exhibition 2013, Marco Molinari, Executive Vice President, HNI Corporation and President, HNI International, said: “The Office Exhibition 2013 continues to be an important venue for HNI Corporation to effectively access clients and key influencers in the region. It is professional, growing and well organized and attracts international attention and participation.”
The Office Exhibition joins the INDEX International Design Exhibition in 2013
|INDEX International Design Exhibition and The Office Exhibition will come together in 2013 to create an ‘Interiors Super Show’ for the Middle East & North Africa’s Architect and Design community.
The decision to bring these two established brands together was taken after several months of extensive research into the changing landscape of the global interiors market, and to further support the continuing evolution of the INDEX International Design Exhibition; an event that is already widely recognised as the region’s largest and most established interiors exhibition.
As the total spend on interior design in the GCC is expected to top US$56 billion in 2012, more and more manufacturers and suppliers are expanding and diversifying their range of products and services to target the entire spectrum of interiors fit-out and refurbishment projects.
Equally, more and more Architect and Design companies are expanding their consultancy capabilities to cross the boundaries between commercial, residential, hospitality and retail design in order to chase lucrative fit-out projects across the region, which last year were valued at an astounding US$8.6 billion.
INDEX Event Director Frederique Maurell commented, “I am delighted that The Office Exhibition will become part of the INDEX International Design Exhibition next year. The Office Exhibition has already cemented its place within the Middle East commercial design industry, but the synergy with INDEX makes perfect strategic sense, and we look forward to driving the show forward. By adding new profiles, developing the show and attaching the show to a larger regional design show, The Office Exhibition can only benefit and grow organically to become the region’s premier commercial design event”.
Maintaining its own brand identity, The Office Exhibition will however become an integral part of INDEX, and will remain fully focused on showcasing the most innovative and creative working environments for offices, sports venues, and education and healthcare facilities, as well as a range of other commercial environments.
INDEX will continue to focus on supporting the region’s demand for the latest residential, hospitality and retail-related interior products and services across its existing 9 show sectors (Furnishings, Furniture, Couture, Kitchen & Bathroom, Lighting, Outdoor Living, Textiles, Inspire and Surfaces & Finishes); whilst InRetail will move over to The Office Exhibition.
With an eleven-year history and an attendance of more than 4,200 architects, interior designers, specifiers and procurement managers at the 2012 event, The Office Exhibition will create an additional 9,800sqm of space at INDEX 2013. With 54% of the INDEX International Design Exhibition’s 27,000 visitors being involved in commercial interiors projects, The Office Exhibition will see its visitor numbers increase dramatically next year.
The INDEX International Design Exhibition 2013, incorporating The Office Exhibition, will take place from 20th-23rd May 2013 at the Dubai World Trade Centre and will feature more than 1,300 exhibitors spread across 45,000sqm, representing top international brands from more than 50 countries.
